Description Introducing Veil, a hand built ceramic sculpture from the studio. She is built from recycled stoneware clay and glazed in layered black, tenmoku and indigo, colours that pool and shift across her surface depending on the light. Her draped forms fold around a central opening, small enough to tuck a crystal or two inside or sit a tealight in. She is never quite the same piece twice depending on where you look at her from. One of a kind, handmade in Melbourne.
Story Behind the Piece Veil came from thinking about the moon when it is hidden behind clouds, that foggy illusion where you can see the light but not the source. I wanted to capture that feeling of something present but veiled, fabric draped over a form, an outline without the full picture. She was originally made with a crescent moon element that shattered during the process, making the most beautiful twinkling sound when it broke. The absence of the moon felt right to keep. You can still feel where it was.
Artist Notes Veil is hand built from recycled stoneware clay, the draped forms built up slowly by hand. She was glazed in a combination of black, tenmoku and indigo glazes, layered and painted to create the depth and variation you see across her surface. Fired twice. She shrank considerably in the kiln which is part of why she feels so dense and present despite her size.

Care Instructions Handle with care as the draped edges are fragile in places. Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth. Do not submerge in water.
About the Series Veil sits within the studio's ongoing hand built ceramic practice, sculptural forms that sit somewhere between object and feeling. Each piece is made slowly and entirely by hand from recycled materials.
