Story Behind the Piece

This piece came to me from wanting to understand how sparkle works as a painted surface. I was drawn to the original image for its strength and femininity and I wanted to sit with it long enough to really understand it. Every sequin, every fold, every highlight was painted mark by mark on a digital canvas. By the end it felt like my own, not because I took it, but because I had learned every inch of it.

Artist Notes

I painted A Study of Texture and Light entirely digitally, using layered brush strokes to build up colour, shadow and reflective surface detail. The dot work for the sequins and embellishment was painstaking and meditative. It was also where I learned the most about how light behaves on different textures, something that now influences how I approach surface and glaze in my ceramic practice. This is a limited edition print, framed and ready to hang.
