Perch Ceramic Stoneware Vase in Pink

Description Introducing Perch, a hand built ceramic vase from the studio. She is built from stoneware and glazed in a soft pink gloss that catches the light differently from every angle. Her edges are scalloped and two little sculpted birds sit at the top, perched together like they are keeping watch. One of a kind, handmade in Melbourne.

Story Behind the Piece Perch came to me from an interest in gargoyles, those strange protective creatures that sit on the edges of old gates and buildings. I wanted to make something that had that same energy but sweeter, birds instead of monsters, pink instead of stone. She still feels like she is guarding something though.

Artist Notes Perch is hand built from stoneware, each wall built up slowly by hand before the two birds were sculpted and attached at the top edge. The scalloped edges were pinched by hand. She was glazed in a pink gloss glaze and fired twice. Both birds came out slightly differently which felt exactly right for a piece like this.

Care Instructions Hand wash only. Do not submerge for extended periods. Dry thoroughly after use. Handle with care as the top edge is delicate.

About the Series Perch sits within the studio's ongoing ceramic practice, hand built sculptural forms that sit somewhere between functional object and art piece. Each one is made slowly and entirely by hand.
