Zoey Ceramic Heart Earrings in Purple

Description

A pair of hand built stoneware heart earrings covered in pressed botanical motifs, leaves, florals and dots, with a white speckle glaze that pools into all the little stamped grooves and lets the purple underglaze show through. They hang from stainless steel hooks and sit close to the jaw, light to wear despite how much is going on across the surface. Made by me in Melbourne from recycled stoneware clay. One of a kind, she won't be made again.

Story Behind the Piece

These two remind me of sisters. Similar, made from the same hands, but not exactly alike. Each heart got stamped differently, the motifs landed where they landed, and I let them be themselves. My sisters hold so much of my heart and I think that's somewhere in these earrings too.

Artist Notes

Zoey was hand built using a heart shaped cookie cutter, then stamped all over with botanical texture stamps while the clay was still soft. After cutting the hanging hole and waiting for the clay to firm up, I sponged the edges smooth. I painted a layer of purple underglaze over the whole surface and sponged it back off so the colour pooled down into the stamped impressions rather than sitting flat on top. Then a white speckle glaze over everything before the first firing. After the second firing I assembled all the hardware by hand to complete the piece.

Care Instructions

Store in a dry place. Avoid contact with water, perfumes and lotions. Remove before swimming or showering. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth. Store separately to prevent scratching.
