Grace Ceramic Square Earrings

Description

Hand built stoneware square earrings, each one stamped with a botanical or floral texture and glazed in a single soft pastel. She comes in blush pink with a dense floral stamp, pale blue-grey with a botanical motif, and pearlescent white with a starburst press. All hang from stainless steel hooks and sit light against the jaw. Made by me in Melbourne from recycled stoneware clay. Each colourway is one of a kind and won't be made again exactly like this.

Story Behind the Piece

I wanted to play with some new pastel glazes and see what happened when I kept everything else simple, one shape, one colour, one stamp. They came out looking like tiny cakes, the kind you'd find at a table in Wonderland, too pretty to eat and slightly unreal. I will not be held responsible if you want to take a bite.

Artist Notes

Each pair was hand built using a square cookie cutter, then stamped with a botanical or floral texture mat while the clay was still soft. After sponging the edges smooth and waiting for them to firm up, I applied a single layer of pastel underglaze and a clear glaze over the top before the first firing. The soft colour and the way the glaze settles into the stamped grooves is what gives each pair that almost sugared look. After the second firing I assembled all the hardware by hand to complete the piece.

Recycled stoneware clay, underglaze, clear glaze, stainless steel hooks and jump rings.

Care Instructions

Store in a dry place. Avoid contact with water, perfumes and lotions. Remove before swimming or showering. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth. Store separately to prevent scratching.
