A soft random speckle appeared through the firing that I couldn't have planned for and wouldn't change. She hangs from stainless steel hooks and is not perfectly symmetrical, the botanical motifs land in different directions and create little organic stars and shapes across the surface. Made by me in Melbourne from recycled stoneware clay. One of a kind, she won't be made again.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eStory Behind the Piece\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe speckle was a surprise the kiln slipped in when I wasn't looking. I also love that the botanical stamp went in at different angles on each heart, so the leaves and fronds create these little accidental star shapes where they meet. That kind of happy accident is my favourite part of working with ceramics.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eArtist Notes\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIvy was hand built using a heart shaped cookie cutter, then pressed all over with a botanical texture stamp while the clay was still soft. After cutting the hanging hole and sponging the edges smooth, I applied a pearlescent white glaze over the whole surface. The pale green pooling into the stamped grooves and the speckle across the surface both came through the firing in ways I didn't fully anticipate.
